A
Mossberg 500 shotgun Page 01
This is the 19" barrel, it has a
28" barrel that I will do later.
Here
is the receiver,
plane and ready for engraving.
It seems to be pretty soft, almost
like hardened aluminum.
Applying
some china white by hand.
I use this so that I can draw my basic
outline.
All
white and ready.
Using caliper
to define a border.
Making
the first cut with a push graver.
The border will be a variation of
the nick and dot that will proceed all the way around the receiver.
Sketching out
the first character.
Yes It's a pheasant, you'll see.
Cutting
it in, "using an Ungulate"
Got the basic cut, will do more detail later.
Some
more pheasants,
h'mm, I wonder what
flushed them out.
A
bit more detail.
What
is hunting birds without
some retrievers.
I
put it back together just
to see the magic unfolding.
Time
to do some Florentine scroll
and some veining.
I use a variety of graver's and chisel's,
what ever the job calls for.
Just
starting and getting a feel for
the direction i want to go.
Flowers? ya I suppose, floral scroll? yup,
and maybe something different, you'll see.
Just
working my way around,
decisions, decisions.
O.K.,
now just keep filling the areas.
I have an idea of the completed design but
it mostly just comes as I do a small section after another.
