A PRAYER FOR
BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS
Imagine for a moment that you are a lone soldier
under orders to capture an enemy city. You
slowly make your way and finally, the city
appears, it's an awesome spectacle. The walls
are massive and spotted with enemy troops. The large
metal gates seem impenetrable and you wonder what
your going to do. That sounds kind of strange
but the bible says that trying to win back
the friendship of an offended person,
child, wife, husband, etc., is like trying to capture a
fortified city. That anger is as difficult to overcome
as barred gates.
(Prov. 18:19) "A brother offended is harder to
win than a strong city and contentions are
like the bars of a castle."/ Fixing a shattered
friendship is very difficult but not impossible.
like the soldier, all alone, facing an armored
town, you need help and GOD'S word is just thing.
In the bible we find GOD'S plan, exemplified
by our LORD. In the person of JESUS CHRIST
we can see the steps that GOD took to repair
the broken relationship between himself
and us. The mission of JESUS was the active work of GOD restoring an alienated world to himself.
(2 cor. 5:19)"GOD was in CHRIST reconciling the
world to himself." / By our LORD'S example
we can comprehend the way to proceed
and make peace with others. How did GOD do
it? What steps did He take to reunite His loved
ones with Himself ? The answer is exposed plainly
in His word.
HE LOVED, HE HUMBLED HIMSELF, HE SUFFERED,
HE INVITED AND FORGAVE
!!!!HALLELUJAH!!!!!
First remember to pray, before, during and after
all things.
Be ye constantly in prayer and in His will.
HE LOVED
(1 Jn. 4:9-10) "In this the love of GOD was manifested
toward us, that GOD has sent His only begotten
son into the world, that we might live through
Him. In this is love, not that we loved GOD,
but that He loved us."/ GOD initiated
love for peace. He didn't wait for us, even though the fault was ours and we showed no intention of righting
things with Him. He came to us in the form of JESUS
, He
took the first step. While we were still in Sinn,
He proved how much He loved us.
( Romans 5:8 ) "But God commendeth His love toward
us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us."/
HE HUMBLED HIMSELF
(Philippians 2:8 ) "And being found in fashion
as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient
unto death, even the death of the cross."/
What profound truth! GOD the King of the universe
humbled Himself. GOD became man-in the
person of JESUS CHRIST. putting His rights aside, JESUS placed our concerns before His. This
astonishing step of humility was necessary to heal
our broken relationship with GOD.
HE SUFFERED
(1 Peter3:18 ) "For Christ also hath once suffered
for sins, the just for the unjust, that He
might bring us to God, being put to death
in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit."/
Our relationship with GOD was damaged by sin, a painful sacrifice was the only thing that could heal the
wound, in giving His son, GOD was willing to make
that sacrifice for us. A choice made by our
Father to suffer in our place so that we may
have hope and live.
HE INVITED
(Ephesians2:17-18) " And came and preached
peace to you which were afar off, and to them
that were nigh. For through him we both have
access by one Spirit unto the Father."/ Through
JESUS, GOD has sent a message to everyone ,
he offers a peace based on His sacrifice. It's our opportunity to come to Him and face the reality of our
separation from our Father. He invites us to encounter
the
issues, to embrace Him and be restored to Him again.
Now the door is open.
HE FORGAVE
(Ephesians1:7) "In whom we have redemption
through his Blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace." / Even
though we all have been
insubordinate and rebellious, GOD has been gracious.
We deserve punishment, but he desires mercy
for us. Instead of holding our sins over us,
god wants to forgive and forget them. Most
of us live by the motto "I don't get mad, I get even", GOD doesn't. GOD wants our embrace once again,
He wants us to live again in a rite relationship
with each other and with our LORD! Such undeserved
forgiveness is
certainly reason enough for any one to praise Him.
If and when we are willing to accept this
restoration, He will assuredly accept us, and
all the angels of heaven will rejoice.
GOD has imparted to us the steps to restore
any broken relationship, our Fathers example
must be "with His help" the basis for our method
of restoring relationships, breaking
down the barriers between people.
LOVE
(Ephesians5:1-2) "Be ye therefore followers of
God, as dear children And walk in love, as
Christ also hath loved us, and hath given
himself for us an offering and a
sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor."/
Loving others that we have conflicts
with is very difficult but if we pursue
GODS example, take the initiative and show honest love , not just mere feelings but true warmhearted love and
acceptance between us and the other person. Forced
smiles are not the way to go. Pretending will
destroy things farther and forcing our selves
one others is deadly. It is difficult
but we must thoroughly examine our attitudes, (our
primary task), before we go straitening out
anything or any one else. let love be without
hypocrisy! (Their are no short cuts).
(Romans12:9) "Let love be without dissimulation.
Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which
is good. Be kindly affectioned one to
another with brotherly love; in honor preferring
one another."/ The only true love is that which comes from above. Those who know GOD know true love,
those who impart that love impart true love.
(Luke6:27-9) "But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that
curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use
you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the
one cheek offer also the other; and him that
taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy
coat also."/ We must do right regardless of what others do or say, our view of love must be as our
Fathers not the idea the world has concerning love.
HUMBLE YOURSELF
(Ephesians4:1-3) 'I therefore, the prisoner of
the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy
of the vocation herewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering,
forbearing one another in love Endeavoring
to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."/ Humility is simply the opposite of pride, it is not
being week, it is being concerned about the needs,
comfort and interests of others, putting others
before our selves. When I went to Saint
Mary's,(a catholic school for boys), there
was a nun that was constantly telling us to behave like gentlemen. one day when I got tired of getting
my ears boxed, I asked her, "what exactly is a gentleman"?
She replied,
"A LADY OR A GENTLEMAN IS SIMPLY ONE
WHO IS CONSIDERATE AND SEES THAT ALL AROUND HIM OR HER IS COMPLETELY AT EASE,
COMFORTABLE AND CONTENT."
After her explanation we started to become
more or less conformed the this outline
and our ears began to heal up quite nicely.
(Romans12:3) " For I say, through the grace given
unto me, to every man that is among you, not
to think of himself more highly than he ought
to think; but to think soberly, according as
God hath dealt to every man the measure of
faith." Even though it's very hard we must be understanding , even if we do disagree, and if they don't
appreciate our efforts. Have the mind of CHRIST and
humble our selves as He did.
(Philippians2:3 -5) "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other
better than themselves. Look not every man
on his own things, but every man also on the
things of others. Let this mind be in you,
which was also in Christ Jesus."/ Be understanding,
compassionate, long-suffering, share their problems and their pain, empathy is what it takes.
(Romans12:14 -15) "Bless them which persecute you:
bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do
rejoice, and weep with them that weep."/
INVITE RECONCILIATION
(Matthew18:15) "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass
against thee, go and tell him his fault between
thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee,
thou hast gained thy brother."/ Communication
is imperative, but often avoided because of
anger, embarrassment, fear and pride. Whenever conflict exists we must invite the other party to talk about
the issues and resolve the differences. Be honest,
speak face to face, in privet, discreetly,
guarding each others reputations, showing
respect for the privacy of all involved. If
all else fails recreate a mediator that is mutually
trusted.
(Matthew18:16) "But if he will not hear thee, then
take with thee one or two more, that in the
mouth of two or three witnesses every word
may be established."/ This can be very
helpful but at times even this fails," sometimes its helpful to give a "season" to think, reflect, strengthen and
time for the holy spirit to do His work. The next
thing is to take it to the family, the church.
(Matthew18:17-20) "And if he shall neglect to hear
them, tell it unto the church, but if he neglect
to hear the church, let him be unto thee as
a heathen man and a
publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye
shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven,
and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall
be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you,
That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for
them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two
or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them."/ The wisdom
and influence of the elders, and beloved fellow
servants, sometimes is just the ticket, to take it to the lord with those that have dedicated all to GOD
is a powerful thing, this is a time when the river
of life, miracles and the HOLY SPIRIT flows
freely, great and powerful things have transpired
and will occur again and again in the name
of our LORD.
FORGIVE
(Ephesians4:31-32) "Let all bitterness, and
wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking,
be put away from you, with all malice: And
be ye kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God
for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."/ Who
said that being a disciple of CHRIST was easy,
it must have been some one with a pointy tale
that got so many to accept this lie. When someone
mistreats you it is your duty to forgive if they say there sorry, as it is commanded by our lord. We do not
excuse or overlook the offense to others, we are
just, as our
LORD is just with us, and recognize these wrongs,
deal with them, then put it in a chest and
bury it under the deepest ocean, and put up
no fishing signs. (Luke17:3-4)
"Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent,
forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven
times in
a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee,
saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him."
/ We must forgive in spite of our feelings,
we choose to forgive and in turn we are blessed
with being forgiven by our MASTER.
(Colossians3:12-13) "Put on therefore, as the elect
of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies,
kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness,
long-suffering,
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another,
if any man have a quarrel against any even
as Christ forgave you, so also do ye."/
If we truly want to honor
GOD with our lives we must let His Spirit work
in an intimate way in our life, so that forgiveness
comes from the heart. let us live with a right
attitude.
(Galatians5:22-26) But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:
against such there is no law. And they that
are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also
walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain
glory, provoking one another, envying one
another./ We must acknowledge the wrong and
then forgive or our own relationship
with GOD will be hindered.
GODS WAY /OR/ OUR WAY
Some people just enjoy a good fight, this derives
from their seeking pleasure, and fulfilling
diverse desires. (James4:1-3) "From
whence come wars and fightings
among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts
that war in your members? Ye lust, and have
not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot
obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not,
because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your
lusts."/ Our way must be GODS way, unselfish, placing
effort on reconciliation, being an example of His
way, being wise in "the way", and in GODS
word, showing humbleness, willing to
suffer for others sake, being entreating
and inviting. We must be JESUS like in our forgiveness.
To show the kind of grace to those who hurt, wronged or are angry at us, that GOD has shown to us.
IF IT DOESN'T WORK
GOD doesn't hold us responsible if things don't
work out, He does hold us responsible for our
actions and words. As His disciples it is our
duty to fallow His way, to imitate, emulate
our MASTER. If we have sincerely tried to walk this way and things are no better, then listen to this;
DON'T BLAME YOURSELF!
(Psalms120:6-7) "My soul hath long dwelt with him
that hateth peace. I am for peace: but when
I speak, they are for war." / Both sides must
be willing to work towards repairing
this relationship, unfortunately, often one person tries and the other doesn't, or just half heartily goes through
the moutons with a spiritless attitude that hinders
attempts at restoration, most often it's bitterness,
fear, anger, shame, resentment, or pride.
Whatever the cause
DON'T BLAME YOURSELF if you have done
all that you can, they must answer to GOD.
PRAY!!!, AND TRUST GOD TO CHANGE THE
OTHER PERSON.
(2 Timothy2:24-25) "And the servant of the Lord
must not strive; but be gentle unto all men,
apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing
those that oppose
themselves; if God peradventure will give them
repentance to the acknowledging of the truth."
/ We must heed these words, don't get
involved in quarrels, be gentle,
patient, use meekness and courteousness as powerful
weapons. Be ye encouraged though our efforts might
make little difference, GOD is able, He will
change them.
GET HELP FROM A MEDIATOR
A friend, a fellow servant, pastor or church
elder.
PRAY FOR THEM AND CONTINUE ON YOUR PATH
We must love them unconditionally, be patient,
kind, not jealous, or boastful, or big-headed,
or rude, or selfish, or quick-tempered, don't
hold a grudge, don't delight in their suffering,
but rejoice in truth when GODS word is obeyed, be protective of both thiers and our innermost secrets, be
trusting, helpful and optimistic, be always loyal!.
"If your suffering because of a bad mans injustice;
forgive him lest there be to bad men." Augustine.
SERVE ONE ANOTHER
(Romans15:1-7) "We then that are strong ought
to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not
to please ourselves. Let every one of
us please his neighbor for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it
is written, The reproaches of them that reproached
thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were
written aforetime were written for our
learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like
minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus
That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify
God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wherefore receive ye one another, as
Christ also received us to the glory of God."
/ Follow this faithfully, pleasing others before
yourself in your regained relationships and in all your other relationships and all of them will be strong.
These things will certainly glorify our LORD.
(Matthew5:8) "Blessed are the pure in heart: for
they shall see God." /
